In chaotic-feeling times, it is more important than ever to focus on the things that help give us a sense of stability. Those who dance, play sports, and practice martial arts or yoga know that the key to achieving a centered balance is finding a steady point to focus on. When we direct our focused attention on something stable – we become more stable ourselves. I think this is why I love photographing poles and structures in water. The long-exposure technique I use makes the water around the forms soft and spacious, while the poles remain sharp and sturdy – something to focus on.

Born and raised around Big Sur, California, Scott Reither has achieved international recognition as a fine art landscape photographer with a taste for the dramatic and the transcendental. His long-exposure photographs sensitively record the atmospheric effects, lyrical beauty and emotional revelations that occur through the combination of light, space and time. Captured in evocative locations around the world, Reither’s photographs are expressive evidence of the raw and wondrous truths still to be found in the landscape.
