A staircase at the New York Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) inspired me to experiment & create this Escheresque labyrinth. Originally I photographed a series of the same subject in which people were climbing and descending the stairs. By mirroring and combining these different shots, a new reality was visualized. It personally reminded me of the famous stairs of Jaipur India.
Paul Brouns (1967) is a Dutch artist that lives and works near Amsterdam. In 1990 he graduated from the Academy of Fine Arts in Tilburg (NL), specialised in painting, drawing and photography. With the advent of digital photography he developed a personal approach to architectural photography.
Rhythm, color and geometry are recurring themes in my photographic work and architecture has proven to be an ideal subject for this. Central in my work is the creation of a feast of dancing shadows, sunlit reflections or colour combinations that hopefully will visually enchant you.
