Annette Willis has been a professional photographer in Australia since 2002. Prior to taking up photography Annette was a teacher, academic, research analyst and journalist. She has had eleven solo exhibitions at galleries around Australia.
Her photography has gained finalist places and Honorable Mentions in international photography awards including the Black & White Spider Awards (2007, 2008, 2013), the Julia Margaret Cameron Award for Women in Photography (2011, 2013), Prix de la Photographie (PX3) 2012, International Loupe Awards (2013) and the US Color Masters Cup (2013).
Since 2006 Annette has added portraiture to her visual storytelling. She has been a finalist in many Australian and international portraiture prizes including Head On, Olive Cotton, the Moran Contemporary Photographic Prize, Sydney Life: Art and About and the London Photographic Association Portraiture Prize, Let's Face It 3. In 2006 she won the Wollongong (Australia) Portraiture Prize.
Since July 2013 Annette has been documenting street life in Australia and overseas using a mobile phone. Some of this work appears in Issue 62 (2013) of F Stop Magazine, an online photographic journal. One of the images shot in her hometown, Adelaide was awarded an Honourable Mention in the 2013 US Mobile Photography Awards. In May 2014 Annette will exhibit her mobile phone street photography series, City Crossings: Mobile In Adelaide as part of the Head On Foto Festival in Sydney, Australia.
