The Moria refugee camp on the Greek island of Lesvos was constructed in late 2015. The camp was originally meant to house about 3,100 people, but nearly five years later it is now home to over 17,000 refugees. They live under appalling conditions in fragile tents and huts, none of which are sufficient to keep out the cold winter weather.
Oxfam and Doctors Without Borders have criticized the conditions in the camp, and both the EU’s Commissioner for Human Rights and the UN have voiced their concerns over the Greek handling of the situation.
