The laurel forests of Macaronesia are the remnants of a plant ecosystem that covered extensive areas of the Mediterranean basin during the Tertiary Era. With the glaciations, it withdrew to more temperate regions of the south, disappearing almost completely.
Today, the Laurisilva forests can be considered a real relic. In the Canary Islands, Laurisilva strongholds are found on only a few islands. This photo is taken in the Anaga Rural Park on the island of Tenerife and in it you can see some trees that form authentic almost impenetrable jungles, except for trails made by humans
