The Arbore Sisterhood

The Arbore live in Southern Ethiopia, in arid flat areas near Lake Chew Bahir. Like many other tribes of the Omo Valley, they are pastoralists. The dignified Arbore girls and women are not only visually beautiful, but radiate self-confidence and strength. Arbore girls and married women wear strands of unique beads and metal earrings and bracelets. Unmarried girls shave their heads and cover with a piece of cloth to protect the head from the hot sun. An Arbore man can marry up to four women; after marriage the new wife adopts the name of the beloved cattle of her husband.
