In the small town of Bamei in the Tibetan Autonomous region of western Sichuan, China on a temple built of tiles, 1.5" thick, inscribed with prayers and laid one by one, a solitary nun ascends the central stairs of their ever evolving structure.
The town is home to mostly nuns and monks which still live a traditional way of life in the harsh mountainous region, situated 4500m above sea level.
