Poverty river

300 Indian rupees is the cost of loading one full car of stones which were dug up in the riverbed. The bank of the river is a source of income for the unemployed men and women and also children. It attracts practically anyone who wants to avoid starvation.

Hard work is divided into concrete activities: digging up stones, separating sand, gravel, stones and boulders, cracking larger stones and boulders into smaller by means of anvil and finally landing stones on the truck. All these activities are risky, people are paying their health. The photos were made near Siliguri, India, 2017
