+38 was the international prefix calling code for Yugoslavia.
This country doesn’t exist anymore, but the code +38 is still shared by the new countries
born after the collapse of the socialist republic.
+38 is therefore used here as the proof of a disappeared nation. This photographic project
finds is roots in the necessity of understanding the evolution bonds between places and
their memory.
These monuments called Spomenik (memorial) in the local language were built between 1950
and 1991 all over the Yugoslavian territory, to celebrate anti-fascism and the partisans'
memory.
The objective of my work is to catch the interest of the viewer through the futuristic
aesthetic of the structures without giving them information them information about their
left-wing meaning, which could result refractory for number of people, nevertheless
attracted by these impressive architectural constructions.
