From a project on women waste pickers and climate change in Brazil, I observed that their children accompany them because they have nowhere to leave them while they work. They play and collect toys and even food in these places. Garbage on the outskirts is chaotic and basic sanitation precarious. There is a gulf between this need and public policies. Garbage collection is not regular and leads mainly to the transmission of diseases. What will the future be like for these children in this environment if they are frequently contaminated? Or will “Once upon a time become “Always many times”?
