Two Tales of One City

In January 2025, I covered the All Peoples Rally, MLK Day March, and the Trump Victory Parade. These events, unfold in the same city but exist in vastly different realities, revealing the deep divisions among Spokane's residents. As a journalist, I go to capture what is happening at an event. As an artist, I look for relationships and the emotional feel of the moment.I present these images in 9 pairs, creating one document from two images. Ideally, in a gallery, the color images would be metal and the BW images paper to strengthen the message that what looks weak is strong and vice versa.

The Rev. Genavieve Heywood's work as pastor and artist are guided by the needs for compassion and justice in the communities where she serves. Fine Art Photography is an essential part of her spiritual practice, an outlet for expression, and a means for communication.
