Surviving the Impossible began in 2022, documenting the lives of ordinary Cubans amid an unprecedented collapse. Behind the island’s romantic image lies a harsher truth: censorship, blackouts, mass exodus, and over 90% living in extreme poverty. Built through intimate access, this project centers those who stayed—women, elders, children—who sustain each other through care and solidarity. It reclaims Cuba from myth, showing it as it is: complex, painful, and raw. A testament to quiet defiance against the unlivable.
