On July 29 2024 17 year-old Axel Rudakubana carried out a targeted knife attack on a Taylor-Swift themed dance class, killing three young girls, injuring eight other children and two adults. In the aftermath of the attack, misinformation spread online around the immigration status and religion of the attacker, resulting in a series of protests and riots targeting mosques, immigration centres and asylum hotels. In the aftermath, the people of Southport tried to grive grieve as violence erupted across Britain.
