Landing in Israel to cover a temporary cease-fire in an unprecedentedly ferocious war, the enormity of what had been happening in those lands and to those two peoples I deeply love fell on me like a mantle of silence. My soul suddenly stopped producing words to try and make sense of the world that opened in front of me. I felt muted. Silence did not mean there was nothing there to be seen. I could hear life’s roar everywhere. Only, this time it didn’t translate into words. But it could be photographed. Maybe words will come, one day. Maybe my pictures will stay caption-less. We'll see.
