Gili Trawangan, which is about 2 by 3 kilometres long and has over 200 hotels and 150 restaurants, receives around 1 million tourists a year. Many come to the turquoise waters for diving and snorkelling, while others come for the nightlife. This growing increase in tourism has created a lot of jobs in the hotel and restaurant industry, but it has also had negative impacts. 20 tons of garbage are produced every day. Mountains of garbage, where cows graze and eat garbage. Some people work here at the dump on their own, separating garbage to have some sustenance for their families.
