In March 2021, the war in Yemen entered into its seventh year as an already desperate population continued dealing with the debilitating affects of the COVID-19 virus. To date, exact numbers of deaths and those infected have remained near impossible to determine due to the lack of case-tracing and widespread testing.

As of December 2020, an estimated quarter of a million people have died in Yemen’s war as per the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA). The conflict has ravaged Yemen’s economy and created the world’s worst humanitarian crisis.

Giles Clarke is a photojournalist with Getty Images Reportage based in New York City focusing almost entirely on humanitarian and conflict issues.

His work has been featured by The United Nations (OCHA), American Photography (AP)33/35 Annual Publication, The New York Times, Amnesty International, CNN, The Guardian, Global Witness, TIME, The New Yorker, The Sony World Photo Awards, National Press Photographers Association, Paris Match and Visa Pour L'Image in Perpignan.
