This series creates collages of gaudy, faded, beauty - painterly, neglected, richly textured, and strange. These images use small isolated details from Georges La Tour’s pictures as a starting point for exploring photographic “deceits’. La tour, a French seventeenth century baroque painter, explored chiaroscuro, the high-contrast world of candlelight, making him interesting to photographers who deal in light. Photography is a very different way of investigating the world to paintings. Layering and juxtaposition of painted elements, with my own photographs is used to create a surreal, photographic, trompe l’oeil world. They hint at hidden secrets and a doorway between illusion and reality. They question reality and invite a closer look.
