JANE GOTTLIEB - "JOY RIDES" As a native of Los Angeles I grew up having a love affair with the ever-present automobile. Cruising the streets I captured images that reflect my idyllic vision and romantic memories of a long lost Los Angeles. I have spent my life being an artist. I began as a painter and evolved into a photographer. For the last 25 years I have been combining mediums, hand-painting on Cibachrome color prints and enhancing with photoshop. The â??Joy Ridesâ?? are symbols of the freedom that made Los Angeles such a special place to grow up in 50 years ago. Intensifying the colors creates an unreal world that reflects a lost, but not forgotten Los Angeles.
I have been expressing my joy of art with paint, shapes and colors since I was very young. I started as a painter, evolved into a photographer, and eventually began hand-painting on my Cibachrome prints over 35 years ago. Before Photoshop I found a way to express a new magical reality with the vivid, saturated and unrealistic colors I painted into each photographic print.. For the past 25 years I have been scanning my one-of-a-kind hand-painted prints and my library of 35mm Kodachrome slides taken over my lifetime, & paint, collage & enhance them with Photoshop.
