Egypt Unrest

On January 25, 2011, the people of Egypt took the streets demanding the overthrow of the 30-year regime of Egyptian President Hosni Mubarak. Cairo, Alexandria and other cities of Egypt were the scenes of violent clashes with more than 840 people dead and more than 6000 injured. In Tahrir Square, Cairo, the anti-government protesters occupied the square, announcing that they will clear it only after the resignation of Hosni Mubarak. Massive clashes between the anti-Mubarak protesters and the pro-Mubarak supporters turned Cairo into a war zone. On February 11,2011, the ''Friday of the Departure'', Vice-President Suleiman announced Mubarak's resignation, entrusting the Supreme Council of Egyptian Armed Forces with the leadership of the country.
