The melt water runs twenty-five miles through the mountains from the Ice Sheet of Greenland before it reaches the beautiful valley of Kangerlussuaq. Here lies Orpigaq. An orphanage for young Greenlanders, who have nothing good in common, that is if you ask them. All through life they have been let down by the people who were supposed to protect them. Caught in patterns of crime, drugs, self-harm, violence and sexual abuse, they are young people our society has failed. And for them the orphanage is the last hope, and the last stop before jail. In the following portrait series you’ll meet Louis, Kristian, Nuunu, Suulut, Inuuteq and Aima. Each of them are presented with their own portrait and asked what they think, when they look at themselves…
